During my childhood, I always spent Christmas night together with my younger brother, laying next to the Christmas tree and eating piparkūkas [Latvian type of gingerbread]. We tried to keep this tradition, regardless of the years that passed as we grew older. Now, this is one of the lost traditions. One that has been so dear to my heart like many others.

(Megija)

These are the traditions that were lost to age, colonization, globalization and many more obstacles that they struggled to overcome. This month’s issue will take us back to our yesterday, childhood, and history! This issue is monumentous for First Person, as it contains our 100th post!

With love,

Your editors,

Elena, Haana and Megija

Hello lovely readers!

Welcome to our October issue, Untold Stories! Our lives and cultures are the compilation of many overlapping stories, yet too often we are only told one story from one side of an event, shaping our views of cultures and people. This month, our authors shared stories that have never been heard before, so thank you for listening. Perspectives range from an interview with a UWC alumna to a profile on the untold aspects of ‘sustainable mining’. We value writer’s contributions and we are so honoured by the stories we can share.

Much love,

Megija, Elena and Haana
